Frequently asked questions-

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

Is there a time limit?

Yes, each act is limited to 1 minute.

That seems really short. Why can't my child perform longer?

We want to include as many students who want to participate as possible. In order to include more students, there is not time for each child to perform longer due to constraints of the school day. We will turn off the sound and/or close the curtain on acts longer than one minute. This is to ensure all acts get a chance to perform. When preparing for your audition, practice using a timer so you can make sure your act is 1 minute or less.

My child is playing the drums. Since it is hard to move the drums to the school for the audition, can I just send a video audition?

While there are exceptions made for extenuating circumstances such as a family emergency, we will not accept video auditions because of the potential inconvenience of equipment and props used in the act. The audition serves two purposes- 1. make sure the act meets audition requirements 2. give kids a chance to practice performing their act for an audience before playing for a much larger audience! The audition is a great way to prepare for the show.

Can my child be in a group act?

Yes! We are combining grades for the shows this year. The morning show will be kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 4th grade, and  the afternoon show will be 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade. This means students can form groups with students in kinder, 2nd, and 4th, OR 1st, 3rd, and 5th. There is no limit to the number of students in an act, but we DO have a limited number of microphones, so keep that in mind.

Can my child be in more than one act?

Unfortunately, no. We want to ensure there is as much space as possible for every child that wishes to perform.

I found a KidzBop version of a song that has explicit/inappropriate lyrics. Can my child sing or dance to that song?

Unfortunately, no. The beauty of Talent Shows is that it can prompt audience members to sing along to a song that is being performed. While there may be a clean version of a song being played, we do not want to risk an audience member unintentionally (or not) reciting an explicit or inappropriate lyric.

SUBMITTING MUSIC FOR THE SHOW

How to I get my child's background music to play during the Talent Show for their act?

Email the sound file as an attachment to Mari Brunson at culturalarts@scottpta.com. If it bounces back, email mari.brunson@gmail.com.

How do I attach a sound file to an email?

Watch this video that will show you how to attach a file.

The song my child wants to sing is over 1 minute. How do I trim down the song?

You can do two things. When emailing your song file to Mari Brunson, the Talent Show chair, tell her when you would like the music stopped. For example, "stop the music at :58 seconds." Otherwise, you can use free software like Audacity to trim the music. Use this video for instructions on how to trim audio with Audacity.

I feel overwhelmed with trimming down the song or getting it sent to the Talent Show Chair. I need help!

The Talent Show Chair, Mari Brunson, is here to help! Please reach out to her at culturalarts@scottpta.com and she can help with technical issues or suggest areas of the song to keep or remove to stay within the 1 minute time limit.

Can't I just share the song with you on Spotify/ Apple Music/YouTube?

Unfortunately, we will not accept shares from Spotify/Apple Music/YouTube. There are a few reasons for this. Switching between various web-based platforms to access music will disrupt the pacing of the show, especially if a login is required. Also, wi-fi signals may be weak, which can cause lagging issues getting music to load.

My child's act uses music from YouTube. How do I get the music from it?

Use this link for instructions on how to extract audio from YouTube.
